Easy to make and so delicious, this Halloween Guacamole is a BOO-tiful appetizer to serve at your party! Make a spooky spider web or a monster mash face.
Halloween is NOT all about the candy, my friends. Have a little fun with some healthy foods too! My guacamole recipe is super simple and includes only 5 base ingredients: avocado, lime, red onion, cilantro, and salt!
How to make guacamole
Be sure to use avocados that are ripe, but not overripe. A ripe avocado will yield to pressure if you give it a gentle squeeze. To help speed the ripening process, place the avocados in a brown paper bag along with some bananas overnight. The bananas release ethylene gas which helps the avocados ripen.
Place the avocados in a mixing bowl along with the lime juice and salt. Mash the ingredients together with a potato masher or fork until you reach your desired consistency. (Some like it smooth, some like it chunky.)
Next, you will stir in the red onion and cilantro. Feel free to mix in any extras if desired, such as a fresh garden tomato, a jalapeno or serrano pepper, cumin, black pepper, or cayenne pepper. I personally don't think this recipes needs any extras because it is so delicious, but everyone's taste is different.
Can I use bottled lime juice or dried cilantro to make guacamole?
Sure you could substitute bottled lime juice or dried cilantro, but I wouldn't recommend it. Fresh ingredients are what makes this recipe taste so amazing!
Is guacamole healthy?
Sure is! This guacamole recipes provides 7 grams of healthy fat and 4 grams of fiber per serving! It's also great for breakfast on toast (and with a little everything bagel seasoning - oh yeah!) or as a spread on a sandwich or wrap.
Want to keep your carbohydrate content down? The guacamole itself contains only 5g carb/serving. Swap out some tortilla chips for raw vegetables and you're good to go!
How to make a spooky spider web guacamole
To make a spooky spider web, pipe 4 circles of sour cream onto the guacamole. Using a knife, draw lines from the inner circle to the edge of the bowl. For the spider, I simply used a whole black olive for the body and sliced olives for the legs.
How to make monster mash face guacamole
Honestly, you can use whatever ingredients you have on hand, and what a fun activity for the kids! I used blue corn tortilla chips for the hair and nose and sliced cucumber with black beans for the eyes and mouth.
