An Asheville, NC getaway is the perfect way to unwind and explore the city's natural wonders, historic landmarks, restaurants, shops, and so much more!
A couple of years ago, my girlfriends and I planned a Girlfriend Getaway to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and had the best time. We loved North Carolina so much that we decided to plan a trip to Asheville, and let me tell you this city did not disappoint! There were so many things to see and do.
Visit the Biltmore Estate
One of Asheville's greatest gems, the Biltmore Estate is a sight to see! Built in the 1890's and set on 8,000 acres, it happens to be the largest home in America! Take a tour and admire the incredible architecture, wander the beautiful gardens, or attend a wine tasting. Bring the family, rent bikes and explore the trails. Ride kayaks, go horseback riding, visit the farm animals, dine or shop at Antler Hill Village. There is so much to discover, and you might just need a second visit!
Shopping in Asheville
Asheville is a shopper's paradise with eclectic shops, boutiques, art, and antiques. Here are a few of my favorites:
The LOFT is a funky shop of unique and whimsical treasures. Some of the items are so hysterical, I guarantee you will not leave without having a few chuckles.
Asheville Bee Charmer features bee-utiful gifts, such as skin care, jewelry, t-shirts, and other bee related novelty items. They even have a honey bar where you can sit and sample the various flavors of honey they sell. 🐝
Woolworth Walk is located in a historic Woolworth's building and features various galleries of art for sale including jewelry, paintings, photography, and pottery. They even have an old-fashioned soda fountain you can dine at!
Antique Tobacco Barn - with over 77,000 square feet of antiques, you are sure to come across some rare finds!
Restaurants in Asheville
There is no shortage of restaurants in Asheville, but do note that a lot of them seem to close down and take a siesta in the late afternoon. Plan accordingly! Here are a some of my favorites:
Chocolate Lounge is a great place to indulge in a delicious treat whether it be their homemade ice cream or a decadent chocolate dessert. Vegan and gluten-free options are available too!
Roman's Deli offers a casual atmosphere with a unique variety of soups, sandwiches, and salads. Their avocado caprese panini is delish!
Tapula Honey serves up flavorful southern fare for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Their fried green tomatoes are a must try!
White Duck Taco Shop is a quirky and fun place that makes the freshest, delicious, most tastiest tacos ever! 🌮
Asheville Murals
Asheville is an artsy town with talented crafters and street performers, and has the most gorgeous art too! How fun it is to view numerous murals on buildings throughout the downtown area and in the River Arts District.
The North Carolina Arboretum
The North Carolina Arboretum is nestled in the Pisgah National Forest and contains acres of lush, botanical gardens. Take a stroll through the picturesque quilt garden, and be sure to check out the bonsai exhibit! Walk or bike the trails, and enjoy a picnic lunch while surrounded by brightly colored annual and perennial flowers. Canine friends are welcome too! 🐶
Looking Glass Falls
Waterfalls are plentiful in the North Carolina Mountains. Some require a hike to see, and others are accessible right by the roadside. Looking Glass Falls is a 60 foot waterfall in the Pisgah National Forest which can be viewed right from Route 276. Make your way down a path of wooden stairs, venture out onto the rocks, and wade into the shallow stream and enjoy it's beauty.
If you are planning an Asheville, NC getaway, I'd highly recommend that you create an itinerary. With so many places to experience, you'll want to make sure you can fit them all in. 🙂

The tour first took us to Grove Arcade. Great architecture and fun shops (and much needed A/C - it was hot!) The Grove Park Inn was next. It was beautiful and the views were spectacular! I’m glad we did the tour because there are definitely spots we want to check out (like the Chocolate Lounge!)
It's such a fun place to visit!
